Apple's iPhone 5 takes top spot in Arab countries survey

Gadget - A new survey by the United Arab Emirate's (UAE) telecommunications regulatory authority as shown that the iPhone 5 is the most popular individual brand of smartphone in the region, with Apple overall emerging as the fourth most-popular brand among handset makers. About half (46 percent) of the phones on the UAE networks are smartphones, according to the study.

The iPhone 5 climbed to claim 2.8 percent of the total marketshare among all handsets, beating out the Galaxy S III which took 2.5 percent, the iPhone 4s came in third (2.3 percent), the iPhone 4 in fourth at 1.8 percent, tied with the BlackBerry 9900. The remainder of the top 10 models were the Samsung S4 with 1.6 percent, the Galaxy S Duos (1.2 percent), and BlackBerry's Bold 9780 (1.1 percent) and Bold 9780 (one percent), reports Gulf Business.

Ranking marketshare by manufacturer showed that Nokia was the market leader with 56.2 percent share, reinforcing that half of the country are still on followed by Samsung at 16.4 percent, BlackBerry with 10.2 percent and Apple with 7.8 percent. Apple and Samsung's percentages went up (by 0.4 and 2.6 percent respectively), while the other two went down -- Nokia lost 0.2 percent, and BlackBerry lost 0.5 percent. The trend in manufacturers reflects both the slow change to smartphones as well as the emergence of later and more advanced smartphones like the iPhone 5s and 5c.

The most popular handset in the UAE overall was actually a feature phone -- the Nokia 101/1010 with 4.1 percent share, followed by the Nokia 1280/1282 (3.7 percent share). Despite the popularity of Nokia phones in the UAE, Apple's iTunes beat Nokia's OVI store as the most popular apps website.

Galaxy S4 milik Samsung hanya mampu berada di posisi ke-6 dari daftar tersebut.
